What is a bequest?A bequest is a gift made as part of a will or trust and can be to a person, a nonprofit organization, trust or foundation. A bequest can be made, in any amount, to an individual or charitable organization.
How does a bequest work?A gift in your estate plan does not require you to make any changes in your current life-style. A bequest is customizable to you. You can choose to leave a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. You can also choose to direct your gift to a specific department or scholarship.
We know life happens and plans change. Your will (and bequest) can be updated, as needed. Why include the university in my will?Gifts made through bequests are typically deductible from your estate taxes, reducing the taxable value by the amount of your charitable gifts and potentially resulting in lower tax liabilities.
Your gift to the university will also further the mission of SRU, positively impacting students for years to come. Join The 1889 Society today.Members of the The 1889 Society have expressed their commitment to Slippery Rock University by naming the university as a beneficiary of a planned gift.
