Private support makes a difference. GO ROCK!
The Impact of Private Giving
Since its earliest days, Slippery Rock University has treasured its commitment to education, and is now the region’s premier public residential university; committed to excellence in intellectual development, leadership and civic responsibility.
In the current economic climate, with state and local budget reductions, private philanthropy is more important than ever. The University Advancement Office is proud to steward SRU’s philanthropic goals through sound financial management, scholarship stewardship, alumni events and programming, and a variety of partnerships with the local community. When you make a gift to support SRU you become part of the progress and success of the University.

Scholarships
As public support for higher education declines and tuition costs increase, scholarship support becomes increasingly important. Through the generosity of private donations the SRU Foundation, Inc. awards approximately $2 million in private scholarships annually. Whether responding to the scholarship challenge, or funding one of the University’s over 263 endowed scholarships, private donors make a significant impact on current students and their ability to obtain a quality college education.
Academic Programming and Support
Slippery Rock University is a comprehensive university offering a broad array of undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 8,850 students. Approximately one fourth of all private donations received each academic year are used to enhance the academic experience for both students and faculty - providing funding for everything from independent research projects, travel abroad opportunities, and arts programming such as the popular Performing Arts Series and Kaleidoscope.
Campus Enhancements
Slippery Rock University has become the region’s premier residential universities. Through creative partnerships, gifts from private donors, and support from the Slippery Rock University Foundation, Inc. the university now boasts state of the art residence suites, cutting edge technology resources, and impressive athletic facilities. Private support has played a critical role in recent renovations including the Advanced Science & Technology Center, the Russell Wright Alumni Center, Carruth Rizza Hall renovations, and the Pearl K. Stoner Instructional Complex. In addition, the Slippery Rock University Foundation’s residence suites project provides a vibrant Living Learning Community for students. These enhancements have allowed the university to attract and retain dynamic students and faculty, and resulted in four national awards for its success in enrollment retention and academic quality.
Athletics
SRU alumni and alumni athletes, parents, and friends of Rock Athletics have a long history of helping support and promote athletics at the University. Gifts from individuals and businesses help the university maintain a winning tradition by providing scholarships, facilities, and support for current student athletics. Through the stewardship of private gifts, the University Advancement Office has helped to foster the ROCK winning tradition. Jack Critchfield Park and the Jerry Bejbl Weight Training Center are two recent facilities made possible through private gifts.
