The 1889 Society at Slippery Rock University
Why The 1889 Society?
- The 1889 Society was named in honor of the founding date of Slippery Rock University. SRU opened its doors March 26, 1889, as Slippery Rock State Normal School. Its first president was James Morrow, grandfather of Anne Morrow Lindbergh, and the enrollment for the first session was 168 students.
- The 1889 Society acknowledges donors having designated the university as a beneficiary of a planned gift of any size. Membership in the society does not have a minimum gift level. The university is grateful to all of our donors for their generosity and support of the university and its students.
I want to become a member of The 1889 Society.
