SRU Jazz Ensemble & Chamber Singers
July 6–17, 2023 Italy/France Tour
Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Singers is excited for the July 2023 tour to Italy and France. This opportunity is especially special for our seniors because this is the exact tour that was previously canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our tour includes performances at St. Peter's Basilica (The Vatican), the Umbria Jazz Festival (Perugia), St. Francis Basilica (Assisi), Gezmataz Festival (Rapallo), and the Jazz á Juan Festival (Nice).
As in all of the arts, we rely on the generosity of people like you to keep music education and performance alive–– currently most of our singers and their families cannot afford such an experience.
Will you partner with our jazz and choir students and help us make this dream a reality?

SRU Chamber Singers & Jazz Ensemble Italy/France Tour Mission Statement:
Slippery Rock University Jazz and Choir recognizes the unique power of music to express emotion, foster communication, and provide enrichment for the community-at-large. We are dedicated to using music to initiate positive change, not only on our campus and in the state of Pennsylvania, but also in our nation and world. As global citizens, we strive to study, research, and perform music from all cultures, ethnic groups, and genders.
It is our hope that you might consider making a gift to support our goals of:
- Experiencing the culture and history of the Western canon by integrating ourselves in the Italian and French communities that we spend an extensive amount of time studying in our music history, theory, lessons, and performances classes.
- Exposing our Western friends to the great American choral music tradition in hopes for a cultural exchange between our nations and for an exchange of our unique approach to choral music education.
- Sharing music from the Pittsburgh jazz tradition. The SRU Jazz Ensemble (feat. the SRU Jazz Singers) will perform the music of Billy Strayhorn, Stanley Turrentine, Mary Lou Williams, George Benson, Sammy Nestico, Ray Defade, and Mike Tomaro. Further spreading culture that was born in our region is a high priority for this tour.
- Expanding our knowledge and outreach in engaging music outside of both the Western and American styles by performing repertoire by BIPOC and Eastern composers, modern/pop music, and other works that produce critical consciousness and social advocacy.
Thank you for your generosity.
