SRU Physician Assistant Program's
Rock-A-Bye Baby Project
Faculty members of the Physician Assistant Program are beginning a service initiative for UPMC Magee and AHN West Penn Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Our plan is to generate donations to purchase recordable children’s books to establish a small library within each NICU (a recordable book for each NICU baby).
Not only do we believe this will help foster the emotional connections between baby and parents by allowing the babies to hear their parents’ voices reading to them when volunteer and staff are able to rock and soothe them, (when parents are unable to be physically present with their child due to work and other circumstances), we also believe this initiative will support a lot of research surrounding the cognitive benefits of early-reading to infants.
All donations will go toward the purchase of the recordable books that will then be delivered to the NICU intake team to provide to each baby's family. The books will stay with each baby during their time within the NICU and be sent home with each family upon baby's discharge from the hospital.
Thank you in advance for your support!
