The Brenda Lee Undergraduate and Upperclassmen Scholarships

The Brenda Lee Undergraduate and Upperclassmen Scholarships honor and recognize the full and abundant life of service Brenda Lee Moore, mother of five sons, two of whom graduated from Slippery Rock University.
In addition to being a loving mother, Brenda Moore was a lifelong advocate for learning, service and the importance of higher education. Mrs. Moore understood that life was about constantly learning and growing. She clearly understood that education and learning provided everyone, including her family, her sons and herself, with many freedoms and unique opportunities. These scholarships are awarded to students in honor of the opportunities Brenda Lee gave to her family. Brenda Lee's passing at the age of 62 in December 2021 gave her family the opportunity to create and establish a legacy for the future — these scholarships. Her love for higher education never stopped, and her family wants that passion for learning to live on through the students and families who will be awarded these scholarships. Her push for education started at home with her five sons, who, because of her drive and determination of Mrs. Moore, were able to flourish in education and life.
The journey of lifelong learning can take many paths. The same held true to the diverse and robust life of Brenda Lee. After graduating from Aliquippa Senior High in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania in 1978, Brenda Lee studied Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh where she earned an associate degree. In 1983, she enlisted in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, where she spent 22 years, defending the U.S.A. with honor and pride. After rising to the rank of T Sargent, Brenda Lee retired with honor from the 171st Air Refueling Wing. She received many awards for her unwavering service such as
At the end of her military career, in 2005, after serving her country, with diligence and tenacity, Brenda Lee continued her life of service and education. She worked many years as a Teachers’ Aide at the Beaver County, Pennsylvania, Head Start Program. In addition, she worked at the Women’s, Infant and Children’s (WIC) program in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, educating families on the importance of health and impacting hundreds of lives. Her teaching and love of education was a seven-day-a-week job — as a faithful member of Triedstone Baptist Church in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She received an award as a faithful servant for her love and dedication to the church. Her love for Jesus was limitless.
In her honor, the family offers these scholarships to students and their families in hopes of providing them the same opportunities afforded Brenda Lee’s children. Brenda Lee Moore, was proud of her family’s accomplishments, their careers and their families whose successes are only possibly because of the love of learning their mother instilled in them. Let her legacy continue on in these scholarships.
