Support the Symphonic Wind Ensemble Consortium

As part of an ongoing endeavor to increase equity in the SRU Symphonic Wind Ensemble music library, the members of the ensemble have begun a process of commissioning new works of music from the pens of underrepresented composers. The project seeks to work towards creating and sustaining equitable programming practices, not only at Slippery Rock University, but around the country and the world.

In December 2023, the symphonic wind ensemble successfully premiered their first work as part of this project, “Forerunner” by Mat Campbell. This collaboration allowed students to work directly with the composer to bring the new work to life. Campbell visited the university to rehearse the ensemble on campus and conduct the world-premiere. 

To continue commissioning new works, the organization requires sources funding. Donations made to the program will be combined with funds generated by grants and additional fundraising efforts.
