August is National Make-A-Will Month

August is national Make-A-Will month. We know that making a will can seem stressful and time-consuming, but it doesn't have to be. Writing your will puts you in control of your assets and allows you to make an impact on the ones you love and the causes that are close to your heart.

Will Planning Myths, Debunked

Will planning is expensive.

Will planning doesn’t have to be expensive. There are many free or inexpensive online services available to help you create your will.

I’m not wealthy. I don’t need a will.

Wills aren’t just for material wealth. They also help you protect the things that mean the most to you, like your children.

Can I leave assets to a non-family member?

A will allows you to provide for people who would not be covered by state intestacy laws. For example, stepchildren, godchildren, friends or charities.

I already have a will.

If you already have a will, it’s important to review it every 3-5 years to make sure it doesn’t require updating.

What is a bequest?

Bequests are gifts that are made as part of a will (or trust). A bequest can be made to a person, non-profit or charity, a trust, or a foundation. Learn more about bequests.
